Helping support my leg and it's healing faster
Until I got this Cam Walker, my leg was hurting a lot and seemed to not be healing at all for almost 3 weeks. Within 3-4 days of using it, my leg feels as if it is almost completely better. At first I wasn't sure if it was the right piece of equipment for my leg - the fracture is on the shin bone. The liner with the closures seemed to be pressing on the bone and making it hurt more. Then I took the extra pads enclosed (I wasn't even sure what they were for) and put two each on either side of where the fracture is, so that when I closed the front it would not be directly pressing on that part of the bone/leg. That made a huge difference. It also took me a couple of days to figure out exactly how much air to put in the ankle area and how tightly to close the straps. Sometimes it was too loose and I didn't feel I had enough support, and sometimes it was too tight and hurt and even caused my foot to swell up a tiny bit twice. I figured out what was the right balance for me. For some reason, when I took the walker off the first several times I wore it, my leg hurt a bit. It seems that the walker is supporting my leg and then when I take it off and the support isn't there any more I "feel" it. Now, after about 5-6 days of using it, my leg feels significantly better. I am able to stand up and prepare meals without being in excruciating pain. My mobility has increased and I am so happy I got this product! My only caveat is that I thought the "air" aspect of this would apply to the entire liner. The only part of the boot that has an inflatable air pillow is around the ankle. However, even though that is not where my injury is, the extra support is helping take pressure off the rest of my calf, so it is working the way it is designed.
